After a valiant fight against cancer, actress Shannen Doherty passed away on July 13 at the age of 53. Her last public appearance was a quiet evening spent in Malibu with her mother Rosa Elizabeth Doherty and friend Chris Cortazzo.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” Shannen’s publicist said in a statement following her death. After battling cancer for several years, she ultimately lost the fight. In an emotional video homage, Chris Cortazzo referred to her as his “beloved friend and heart.”

Celebrity Shannen was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She was best recognized for her part in “Beverly Hills 90210.” She attributed her strength to her mother, who had given her a strong sense of self. Shannen stated, “I credit my upbringing, which placed a strong emphasis on tenacity and never giving up, for my strengths.”
