It always makes us happy to see individuals assisting animals. It’s an incredibly selfless job because animals typically don’t express gratitude for a good deed.

However, occasionally animals have a charming way of saying “thank you” to the people who saved them. For example, one kangaroo shook hands with the men who saved him.

A man named David Boyd reportedly spotted a kangaroo in Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin, according to Daily Mail Australia. The animal was reportedly unable to escape since the water was cold.

However, two courageous onlookers risked the freezing waters to assist the roo in getting to safety.

To avoid frightening the kangaroo, the men approach cautiously. The kangaroo begins flailing its arms as they approach and attempt to seize them in order to guide it to safety.

Nevertheless, the men manage to capture the animal and guide it out of the water.

A third man keeps the shivering, frightened kangaroo calm while assisting with its ascent onto dry land.

Notwithstanding their friendly appearance, kangaroos can be aggressive if they feel threatened. Their defenses include a kick that experts say may disembowel a man, sharp claws, and a powerful punch similar to a boxer’s.

Fortunately, this kangaroo seems to recognize that these men were there to assist, and at a touching moment, he even extended his paw as though to shake hands.

The man recording the rescue can be heard saying, “Aw, he’s thanking you.”

The kangaroo was in “shock,” according to Daily Mail Australia, and required 30 minutes to settle down.

Onlookers, however, said that the kangaroo ultimately hopped about on its own, apparently undamaged by the experience, according to Courier Mail.
