The stroll swept the country in the late 1950s, thanks to American Bandstand!

You presumably already know what we’re talking about if you grew up in the 1950s; in fact, it was so popular that you probably knew even if you didn’t.

The Stroll is a group dance that was featured on American Bandstand in 1957. The girls and guys line up on opposite sides, and one member of each group meets in the center to “stroll” down the lane.

The song, which was first sung by The Diamonds, peaked at number four on the 1957 Billboard pop charts and sparked a nationwide dance craze! The original stroll can be seen in the following video, which is taken from a local dance performance in Idaho in 1958.

Check it out for a fun blast from the past, and let us know, what was your favorite dance craze?
