A turtle crashed through the windshield of a moving automobile in Savannah, Georgia, in an incredible sight that is hard to believe. What’s even more amazing is that the two people inside the car, sisters Latonya Lark and Kevin Grant, miraculously avoided major harm.
Lark and Grant were traveling north on Harry S. Truman Parkway on May 12 while doing errands in Savannah when the strange incident happened. The turtle suddenly broke through their windshield, but instead of going all the way through, it became trapped.
“I thought it was a brick, and I told (my brother),’my God, there’s a brick!'” Lark recalled the breath-taking incident. Before either sibling realized what had happened, they were both left shocked and coated in broken glass.
Licensed cosmetologist Grant expressed his shock, adding, “My initial thought was to shield myself when the glass cracked. I said to myself, “You know, turn and hide.”
Lark thought the turtle had been thrown toward their car from a motorist that had hit the reptile on the road ahead of them.
Following the startling experience, the siblings pulled over and dialed for help. The car was so badly damaged by the turtle, the police report stated, that it was unable to be driven safely and had to be towed.
Lark pointed out that she probably saved a disastrous consequence because of the thickness of the windshield and her fast thinking. Lark said, “According to the police officer, had the glass not been as thick as it was, and if I hadn’t immediately reduced my speed upon spotting the object, the outcome could have been catastrophic.”
The turtle was freed from the windshield by authorities, and at first it seemed to have survived the strange event. But in the process, the turtle lost one of its legs.
Unfortunately, Lark learned a few days later when she went to check on the turtle’s status that it had passed away from its wounds, mostly from severe blood loss.
Following this unusual incident, Lark warned other motorists to drive carefully and to pay attention to their surroundings. She stressed the importance of being alert while driving and warned that such strange events could be caused by careless drivers.
“If people are not paying attention to the road… you know, whoever hit that turtle, they had to have been flying,” Lark stated.
This amazing story of survival and a near-miraculous escape serves as a potent warning of the unforeseen risks that might occur while driving. It emphasizes how crucial it is to maintain attention and vigilance when driving because even the most unlikely things might happen when you least expect them to.
