Just in time for Mother’s Day, an Arizona foster mother received a life-saving present from her adopted son in a touching story of love and sacrifice. Jordan, the son Ingeborg McIntosh fostered, volunteered to be her living donor after she developed polycystic kidney disease. Ingeborg McIntosh has devoted her life to caring for over 120 foster children.

Ingeborg realized she would soon require a kidney transplant last summer. Jordan decided to get tested on his own initiative to see if he would make a suitable donor. Jordan broke the amazing news to his mother with tears, telling her that he was a perfect match and would be giving her the gift of a new kidney just in time for Mother’s Day.

“I feel like this was my calling in life, I guess,” Jordan said, expressing his sincere gratitude and love for his mother. It’s the least I could do for now, but perhaps when I become older, I can do more for her.” Jordan made a point of saying that his mother had taken care of him without expecting anything in return.

Devoted foster parent Ingeborg recalled the first time she took Jordan in her arms and said it was “love at first sight.” Jordan had obstacles, such as Ingeborg’s preference for him to be raised in a household with African Americans or mixed-race children, but she accepted him completely, and the adoption was formalized when Jordan was only 4 years old.

When Jordan, an adult now, insisted on giving his mother a kidney, the emotional journey of gratitude and love culminated. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Ingeborg said, “I couldn’t ask for a nicer son. I want to do this for you because you took me in,” they said, reaffirming their close relationship.

Last month, a successful surgery was performed without any difficulties, giving hope and encouragement to those who are facing comparable challenges. Through his experience, Jordan conveyed his belief that deeds of compassion, whether done right away or years after, may have a profound effect.

In order to help with medical expenses, the McIntosh family established the McIntosh Benefit Donation Fund at Wells Fargo, demonstrating the value of giving back and the strength of community support. This inspirational story serves as a reminder that despite health challenges, love, compassion, and charity can work miracles.
