Although everyone has an opinion, we occasionally forget that it’s best to keep it to ourselves.
Recently, a 76-year-old style influencer posted a picture of herself wearing a sleeveless midi dress. Although the post received a ton of comments, not all of them were complimentary.
“This has happened before, but this one caught me off guard,” Candace Cima told TODAY. “People need to change their antiquated ideas about what constitutes age-appropriate fashion.”
Cima, a grandma to eleven grandkids, flaunted a sweater and a brown knit sleeveless dress.
Many complimented the pro-aging influencer’s style, but many took to the comments to criticize her look.
“This dress does nothing for you from the back or side. Below-the-waist form fitting is not your friend. Enjoy every other aspect of your physique! commented a Facebook user.
Another person said, “I don’t like the dress, but I like the sweater.”
Not at all flattering. would never be worn by itself. Another user dared to remark, “I’m too old to be flaunting all that skin.”
“At 76, having wrinkled skin is totally normal, and I’m not embarrassed about it,” Cima remarked. “I want to answer sometimes, ‘Should I cover my face too, since I have wrinkles there?'”
Seeing a need for elder women in the industry, Cima launched her fashion blog in 2019.
“I thought there was a chance to discuss how to dress as you age. Because their mothers and grandmothers covered up, women have been socialized to believe that they must do the same.
“We must change the way we view aging. In the modern world, we don’t have to follow these outdated notions.
Cima ignored the innumerable offensive comments, choosing instead to give guidance to some of her younger and newer fans.
“Getting older is wonderful. You have access to all of the knowledge you have acquired during your life. Right now, you are the smartest you will ever be. Accept it and feel proud of it.
