An “unusual” girl had previously been rejected by 20 families before being adopted by a single man.
A little girl’s luck has changed after she was turned down by her mother and twenty other adoptive homes.
For a variety of reasons, but probably most significantly because social services rarely grant custody to a single, gay man, the adoption story of Luca Trapanese and his daughter Alba has gone global.
They did, however, grant Luca an exemption. and we’re overjoyed that they did.
Italian Luca, 41, wrote a book about being a parent to Alba, a girl with Down syndrome, and the challenges he faced along the way, as reported by the BBC.
Trapanese claimed in a radio appearance that his situation “destroys stereotypes about fatherhood, religion, and family.”
Adoptions by gay or single parents in Italy have historically proved difficult.
“I was told that I’d only be given a child with an illness, a severe disability, or behavioral problems,” he told the BBC. “I was absolutely OK with that.”
Luca adopted Alba in 2017, when she was just 13 days old, after 20 families had declined to take her because of her medical conditions.
“She brought me happiness and a sense of fulfillment. I am proud to be her dad,” he said.
Luca has worked in a number of facilities for those with special needs and has always wanted to become a father. He had a strong desire to help people after losing his best friend to cancer when he was just 14 years old.
Through Catholic-affiliated charity, he assisted the crippled and the very sick in his free time.
For this reason, despite the fact that he is single, he adopted Alba, who now lives with him in a loving family.
Alba is described by the BBC as a resolute and somewhat uncooperative youngster. She enjoys playing and dancing with others and is a gregarious person.
“It was the first time I’d held a newborn baby. Before that moment, I had always been scared. But, when I first held Alba, I knew I was ready to be her dad,” he said. “I was overcome with joy. I felt she was my daughter straight away.”
It’s been a while since news of Luca and Alba’s stunning romance spread like wildfire online.
Nonetheless, Luca’s over 320k Instagram followers can continue to see his family’s travels and daily exploits.
The two spend a lot of time simply hanging around and having a great time together.
Their lives have been altered by the pandemic, but it is heartening to see how they are supporting one another.
Together, they enjoy traveling throughout Italy, painting, experiencing the great outdoors, interacting with others, and indulging in delectable cuisine.
First of all, congrats to Alba and Luca! Since Luca believes that this young girl has a bright future, it is clear that he is a kind and giving man.
